They say that once you're arrested, the smartest thing you can do is to keep your mouth shut and let your lawyer do the talking. That's exactly what these poor people should have done, but instead, they let their greedy big fat mouths get the better of them in the courtroom. 

As retold by his lawyer on Reddit, one man went to court over a disagreement with his landlord, where he was withholding rent over poor living conditions. The lawyer strongly advised him to keep the rent money around as proof he was capable of paying, just choosing not to. The man agreed, but when pressed about the rent money in court, quickly folded and told everyone he had blown it in the casino the night before. Needless to say, he didn't win his case, and his lawyer was furious.
